The Hustlers began their musical journey in rural middle Tennessee at a time when radio stations only format was music. There was plenty of bluegrass and country coming out of Nashville, but late at night 1510 AM WLAC was playing blues, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues. The influences were coming from every direction and impossible to ignore, and they weren’t lost on the members of The Hustlers. The band consists of Dennis Dungy - guitar and vocals, Ron Galloway - bass and vocals, Tim Wilson - drums, percussion, and vocals, and Jim Woodard - guitar and vocals.

So, what kind of music do The Hustlers play? Lets begin with the first album, the self titled “The Hustlers,” where the band was joined by guest Joe Mcglohon - tenor sax, Gregg Wetzel - piano, Mike Wilson - guitar, and Miranda Louise - vocals. Produced by Jimmy Nalls, former guitarist with The Nighthawks and Sea Level, and Phil Dillon, member of The Buffalo, New York Music Hall of Fame. The album starts out with the Texas blues of “Go Big Daddy” and the journey that follows weaves blues with rockabilly, jazz, jump blues, and rock and roll.

The second album opens with the Memphis style “Why Can’t We Get Along” and continues with the carribean flavored “Fishin’ Boat”, the blues of “I Need You Baby”, country styled “I Feel Love”, plenty of funk with “Money in Junk” and closes with the rocker “Ruger 44”. Produced by Phil Dillon, the second album covers a lot of ground in six songs.

The musical landscape of The Hustlers is an ever changing one where becoming static or pigeonholed is not an option. So what kind of music do The Hustlers play? Good music, period.
