Raven and Red is an award-winning bluegrass, country, and acoustic music band formed in 2009 by lead singer/guitarist Mitchell Lane and fiddler/singer Brittany Jones. Both graduates of the School of Music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Mitchell and Brittany are well versed in classical repertoire and enjoy combining these techniques in their recordings and live performances. Their individual musical accomplishments provide the inspiration to creatively arrange outstanding lead and harmony vocals with lyrical instrumental melodies. They strive to reach audiences through their updated and original approach to acoustic music. In 2014, Raven and Red released a new 5-track EP, Live In The Studio, featuring a handpicked selection of the most popular songs performed at their shows. The band has performed concerts at various festivals, venues, and events throughout the Southeast, including opening for country singer, Connie Smith. Lead singer and guitarist, Mitchell Lane is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. A North Georgia native, he performs a variety of musical genres and styles including bluegrass, classical, rock, country, old-time, folk, and traditional Appalachian. He has studied voice with Dr. Gregory Broughton at the University of Georgia, Maestro Fletcher Wolfe- Founding Director of the Atlanta Boy Choir, and most recently with Mr. Glenn Siebert at UNCSA. He is a self-taught pianist/keyboardist who also enjoys writing songs and performing with his guitar across the Southeast as a founding member of the bluegrass/country music band Raven and Red. As a highly sought after soloist and choral singer, he has performed with Winston Salem’s Piedmont Chamber Singers throughout his studies at UNCSA. In 2012, he traveled with the Atlanta Boy Choir’s Alumni Men in their international concert tour of St. Petersburg, Russia, where he sang in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic and the Royal Imperial Academic Capella at the Hermitage. In his spare time, Mitchell enjoys traveling, relaxing in the mountains with his family, and going to concerts.
Fiddler and singer, Brittany Jones, is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In December of 2013, Brittany became the fifteenth graduate ever in history to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies with a minor in Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University, where she graduated cum laude. She has studied Bluegrass fiddling with Hunter Berry and Colleen Trenwith, Old Time and Québécois fiddling with Trae McMaken, Celtic fiddling with Jane MacMorran, mandolin with Adam Steffey, and banjo with Frank Wing. Brittany holds another Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with concentrations in Violin Performance, Organ Performance, and Sacred Music from Lebanon Valley College in addition to a Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She also studied Injury Prevention Keyboard Technique at Salem College under the direction of Barbara Lister-Sink. Brittany studied fiddle and mandolin with Troy Engle while she performed in a youth bluegrass ensemble throughout middle school and high school. From 2001 to 2008, Brittany served as the organist for Salem Lutheran Evangelical Church in Oberlin, Pennsylvania. Brittany has performed in many orchestra pits for musicals, orchestra concerts, chamber music groups, choirs, recitals, church events, and bluegrass bands. She also enjoys teaching private music lessons and workshops.
Cole King is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for Raven and Red. He plays the piano, violin and fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and sings lead and harmony vocals. He sings with the Grammy Award-Winning Atlanta Boy Choir and is often featured as a soloist. He performed with the Atlanta Boy Choir in 2012 at the The Great Hall of the Philharmonic, the Royal Imperial Academic Capella, the Winter Palace, and Peterhof Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2013, he performed with the choir during their tour of Nova Scotia, Canada at the St. Ambrose Cathedral in Yarmouth, St. John’s Church in Lunenburg, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Halifax. Cole lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and is in the 8th grade at Woodward Academy, where he plays violin in the Advanced String Orchestra, and was a member of the Lower School Fiddle Club. He has received the Music Award, Physical Education Award, and the Good Citizenship Award from Woodward Academy. He also serves as a Page at the State Capitol in Atlanta. Cole enjoys musical theater and has played the role of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland and the Captain in The Golden Vanity. He was also a member of the Greek Chorus in The Emperor’s New Clothes, an understudy in Schoolhouse Rock, and performed the song “Where Is Love” from Oliver in a Woodward Academy talent show. Cole has performed with the John Robertson Trio at his favorite restaurant and jazz club, Dante’s Down the Hatch in Buckhead, GA. Cole has interests in many genres of music and has been writing songs since he was about two years old. He enjoys jamming and watching bluegrass concerts at Everett’s Music Barn in Suwanee, GA. Cole is a talented athlete and spends much of his time swimming, playing tennis and golf, and jumping rope. He is on the Sugarloaf Sharks swim team, where he received the Future Heartbreaker Award. In his free time, Cole enjoys going to the Atlanta Braves games, concerts, skiing, horseback riding, traveling, reading, playing with dogs, eating strawberries, and chasing girls. Cole is excited to play with his big brother, Mitchell, and their best friend, Brittany as a member of Raven and Red. In June of 2014, Cole returned from his third tour with the Atlanta Boy Choir, where he performed at St. John’s Cathedral in Warsaw, Poland, St. Mary’s Basilica and Wawel Cathedral in Krakow, Poland, and the Tyn Church in Prague, Czech Republic. He is very excited to join the Atlanta Boy Choir on his fourth tour to Los Angeles and Hawaii this summer. Cole was also selected to travel to Paris, Chamonix, and Nice, France, as well as Geneva, Switzerland over Spring Break with his 8th grade class at Woodward Academy.less
