  • jmcollier: Dia dhuit, a Mhichil. Michael Collier here.
  • jmcollier: I trust Dancing at the Crossroads is still doing some sean nos step dancing as well as the standard stuff. Maith thu/. How about a set or two?
  • jmcollier: Sure. I'd love to come back for some more dancing, sets (quadrilles) ar an sean nos. How's the dancing at Drexel Hall, on the floor of the new Cultural Center there?
  • jmcollier: I've loved waulking songs since I first heard and was taught one or two back in Berkeley in the 80s, but that's a new one on me.
  • jmcollier: Will be in Ireland, dancing a lot, mid July to mid Aug.
  • jmcollier: Oiche mhaith. Go n-e/ri an bother libh,
  • jmcollier bought reward: "an .mp3 of one of my songs in Irish (Gaeilge)."
  • IrishRootsCafe: Thanks Michael. Kiernan will help promote your dancing in KC, with her group . Will you be free then April/May/ June/ late August.... That walking song was Gaol ise Gaol i, (She's my Love). Our lead for that song was stuck in school tonight
  • jmcollier: Dia dhaoibh, o/Michael. You're loud and clear.
  • jmcollier: maith thu/. An mhaith an damhsa sin.
  • jmcollier: That tune, The Girl i left Behind Me, is as universal as a tune can get. It's everywhere.
  • jmcollier: The tune is a good Clare polka, for polka figures in Clare sets.
  • jmcollier: Bearna is a gap, like in a ridge or line of hills.
  • jmcollier: Bhaoil (do I have the spelling right?) is 'of danger'.
  • jmcollier: There is the town of Bearna just west of Galway City, on the coast of Galway Bay.
  • jmcollier: All dancing is good. Set dancing is best, and old sets in old styles are the best of all. Donegal couples dances are mostly simple and fun too.
  • jmcollier: Such songs or poems were not written down by the poet, but only remembered and recited of sung.
  • jmcollier: Got the mp3. nice.
  • jmcollier: Sla/n is 'health'. Leat is 'with you' as you leave. Agat is 'at you' as you stay. Both are singular.
  • jmcollier: Go raibh mi/le maith agaibh go le/ir.
