The Con Affetto String Trio chose its name, meaning, "with affection," because it so aptly describes the ensemble's mutual dedication to bringing love to every music-making opportunity. The Affettas first played together at Longy School of Music of Bard College in January 2013, and instantly felt an unusual chamber music sympathy. The trio studies under the esteemed tutelage of Longy faculty members Laura Bossert and Terry King. The Affettas are winners of the Longy's Student Voices competition, and made their radio debut in November, 2013 on WQXR's McGraw Hill Financial Young Artist Showcase. Described as playing with "tremendous color and sophistication" by internationally renowned double bassist James Van Demark, the ensemble has received coaching from musical notables such as Levon Chilingirian, Matt Haimovitz, Ian Swenson, and the Danish String Quartet. They were Ensemble-in-Residence at Winter LyricaFest 2014 and the Rockport Music String Summit 2014. In Summer 2015, they will hold another residency at the New England Chamber Music Festival. They are currently involved with From the Top's Center for the Development of Arts Leaders Boston, giving community performances around the Boston area. As proponents of music education, the Affettas have volunteered their time at El Sistema Somerville's orchestra program as well as Bridge Boston Charter School's El Sistema- inspired violin program.
