While to some the name may conjure up images of old ladies in long blue-jean skirts and no makeup singing less than melodic nursery rhymes about nature and such, to others it rings of the roots of rock and roll. They may be best described as an alt-country/rock and roll band, but you don't have to listen long to hear the influence of Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, The Byrds, The Band, Buffalo Springfield, Donovan and many others that that bridged the gap between the American folk scene to the Folk Rock scene of the mid 1960's that was strongly influenced by the British rock sound of bands like the Beatles. Though all the members of the band are still in their early twenties, their music dips into the deep waters of the folk revival as does the music of so many of their heroes. They are a throwback to a time when southern rock and phychodelic music dominated the airwaves yet distinctively new and different. As comfortable opening arena's for Ted Nugent as they are opening for Willie Nelson, Hayes Carll, or playing some hipster club in Austin, their music simply strikes a chord with just about any audience. This band is a breath of fresh air to a music world polluted with so much of the same. Their Sophomore release "Water Walker," soon to be released through Rock Ridge and distributed through Warner ADA, is drenched with poetic meaning ranging in topics from politics, faith, power, and love while never feeling preachy or superior. Though their previous album acquired much critical acclaim, this is a band that must be seen live to be fully appreciated. Folk Family Revival is booked by Jon Folk at Red 11Music and managed by Jeffery Armstreet at Magnolia Red.
