The Devane Brothers were just fantastic. Very funny and clear spoken. These guys are going to make it big because of their talent but also because of their brilliant personality. In regards to the live streaming, it was great, especially for us here in Ireland, we were made feel like we were actually there. The questions and answers sections part was also a great idea as we could put our questions out there and get answered. All in all, it was amazing. Great job :)

Excellent program. A lot of good information about sean nos dancing. However, the audio wasn't very good. The Devane brothers were very soft spoken with an accent. I had trouble understanding them. I missed a lot. I could understand Shannon Dunne very well, but could hardly understand Billy McComisky, who also spoke softly with no accent. The audio for the music and dancing was very good. Clapping and laughing was very loud.

This is the first time in the States for renowned sean nós dancers Patrick and Gearóid Devane, and to make the most of this unique opportunity, MAD week is offering a Dance Symposium. The topic will be sean-nós dance teaching/transmission.

Part of the Devane's mission as teachers is to pass on sean-nós dancing in the truest form possible. While their dancing developed by watching their father- a renowned dancer- as well as other members of the community, most of today's sean-nós dancers will not learn in this way. This symposium is designed for both teachers and students to develop and understanding of what is lost and gained by the change in the way sean-nós is taught in today's world.

This event is not only for teachers! Students of sean-nós dance will get to hear important information that will help inform their understanding of the style, as well as think about how they are receiving their steps/style.

The format for the symposium will be a moderated interview (think of the show "Inside the Actor's Studio"). Audience members may submit questions either before, via email, or during, via index card submission.

The Devanes will be joined by master of the button accordion, Billy McComiskey. The event will be moderated by Shannon Dunne, sean-nós dancer and Director of MAD Week's dance program.
