John Hatanaka grew up in the Colorado Rockies. Being surrounded by the pristine wilderness from birth, he soon found music was an outlet that would let him share his experiences with many especially his good friends. Eventually his travels led him abroad to Japan where he was able to learn how to share his music to a new diverse audience and also become fully immersed in a new culture, his own Japanese ancestral roots leading him on this path. He has lived in three different locations for the past four years
and currently resides in Aspen, Colorado.

"Singer/songwriter John Hatanaka digs deep with his blend of unique heartfelt lyrics and original acoustic melodies in order to touch his audience and let them feel as if they were there with him as he was writing his work. Each song carries with it a small part of Hatanaka's life. He truly speaks from the heart as few artists can. Although humble about his work, Hatanaka's talents peer him with the likes of John Denver, James Taylor, and Cat Stevens." Kevin Schaum

"From a very early age I've loved music and songwriting. It has always taken center stage for me. Being able to share my songs around a campfire or play to an international audience is something I think I was born to do. I don't really know where songs come from. I ask myself that sometimes. I could say that my words stem from the long line of experiences and friends that have so far made up my life and that would be very true. However, sometimes I feel that I am not the writer, but simply the listener and my guitar is the vehicle that lets me explore the map of creation. I urge everybody to create something."

"I grew up in the tall Rocky Mountains
Singing to the birds and trees
Waiting for my time to dance around
Feeling my feet with my knees

Fell in love in the land of the rising sun
Gave and took and saw my story undone
Walked on the edge of a waterfall
Hold for another day

Sat on the waves
Saw the Sun
Saw the Sun go down

Well I am a bear in the forest
Searching for berries on trees
Taking time to pause in the cold air
Feeling the gentle soft breeze... on my noes
Does anybody know where the wind does blow

Well I'm sitting under a dark sky
Waiting for time to paint some new life
Giving and taking is where it goes
Hot and Cold is what we know

And How we heal
Ohhh
Is how we heal"
