Betty Jane is a trio consisting of two sisters, Shelby Russell, and Sherelle Russell Christensen, along with Sherelle's daughter, Grace. Growing up in Southeastern Idaho with deep family roots in the west, these girls have developed a love for traditional fiddle tunes, folk, and bluegrass music.

Shelby Russell is a 19 year old music major studying at Idaho State University. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2013 as Valedictorian and is completing her second year in the Honors Program at ISU. She has been playing the guitar, fiddle, and mandolin since she was about 13 years old. She has been competing in fiddle contests around the west, and has won many titles including the 2012 National Best Female Entertainer, and placed in the top five at the 2014 National Fiddle Contest in the Young Adult division. She has traveled to and judged numerous contests, and enjoys getting to meet musicians from all over the world. Shelby enjoys teaching, and currently has about 28 private fiddle and guitar students that she teaches in-between her busy school schedule. She recorded a CD titled "Little Red" her senior year of high school, has since sold over 100 copies, and was featured on the Montana Public Radio Folk Show. Her CD is available online and on iTunes. Shelby enjoys attending and teaching at music camps, and hopes to eventually find a professional career in music education. She also loves skiing, archery, thrifting, fashion, and being outdoors.

Sherelle Christensen is the 35 year old mother of four beautiful children. She lives and works on a third generation farm in Southeast Idaho with her husband David where they raise potatoes, wheat, barley and hay. She loves gardening and being outdoors. She also has two greenhouses where she keeps her green thumb strong during Idaho's cold winter months. She enjoys traveling, baking, gardening, canning, collecting antiques, and photography. Sherelle did not grow up with musical talent. After she gave birth to her first child, she decided that she would like her daughter to play the fiddle. She started lessons herself soon after she started Grace. It was a learning curve at first, but Grace started taking off with her playing, and Sherelle soon had three other children, so her fiddle playing took a back seat. She decided to pick up a different instrument once the kids grew up a bit, and started playing the mandolin and eventually the upright bass. She enjoys music and singing, and loves to lend her limited ability to help support her daughter and sister.

Grace Christensen is the 13 year old daughter of Sherelle, and the niece of Shelby. Grace is a talented musician who plays the fiddle, and a bit of guitar. She has been competing in fiddle contests from the young age of four, and has many prestigious titles under her belt. She is the current National Female Fanciest Fiddler, and placed 2nd in the Junior Junior division at Nationals this past summer. Grace also has a CD out titled "Black Mountain Rag" and is available online. She is homeschooled and enjoys the freedom of studying at her own pace. She loves the opportunity to study and work above her grade level, and the freedom to travel to fiddle contests and work with her family on their farm. She enjoys animals, and especially loves her two pygmy goats, Molly and Pedro, and her mini Australian Shepherds, Gabby and Grizz. She loves to be outdoors, swim, snorkel, and travel. She likes fashion, music, and being a country girl. She also started teaching private fiddle lesson this past year and currently teaches four students.

Betty Jane enjoys playing old time fiddle tunes, mixed with a little folk and gospel music. A mix of instrumental and vocal numbers vary as much as their musical tastes. From upbeat fiddle tunes to beautiful waltzes and gospel tunes, they play a little bit of it all.
