Hank Smith & Lindsey Tims approach acoustic music with decades of combined experience, top-tier musicianship and a refined soul. They create a sound with a high level of maturation otherwise unheard of in musicians their age.

Their debut album, “IMPULSE” is a collection of instrumental, mostly original material that captures the spirit of the masters of contemporary and progressive acoustic music and evolves the form further.

Most of the selections on “IMPULSE” were composed by banjoist Hank Smith, with contributions from multi-instrumentalist Lindsey Tims and Adam Snow. The album also features a stand-out track in the form of an 800 year old Icelandic hymn rebooted in a driving, Celtic-infused way. Though the album was arranged and performed by only two people, the sound is fully realized, with banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle and string bass throughout as though a full band were in the recording studio.

The music on the album ranges from driving, breakdown-style bluegrass to contemporary acoustic melodic-style themes to modern jazz-crossover with some world and classical influences. The duo root themselves in traditional techniques and forms yet seek to explore the full range of their instruments as well as push the boundaries of modern acoustic music. Always moving forward, Hank Smith & Lindsey Tims break down contemporary and traditional styles and rebuild them in a modern, progressive way all the while adhering to melody and harmonic structure.
