“The Danish Voice of Reason”

He is born and raised in Denmark, lived most of his life in Copenhagen but for almost 10 years he has called the Brooklyn, NY home.

It was his day job that brought him to Los Angeles initially, but it was love for his Elizabeth that made him stay and subsequently move to New York.

Back in Denmark, since the mid eighties, one could see Olav perform live on stage as the charismatic front man with the well renowned Police cover band “Roxanne”. He and his old friend, guitarist Bjørn Ginman, are still rocking out. The band keeps it alive and as recent as this past spring; Roxanne toured in Denmark.

Back in Brooklyn, NY, Olav – or Olzios, his nickname in the hood, is still focused on his music. Even though there is no actual band, he managed to gradually build his own little bedroom recording studio. Here, over the past year, Olav wrote and recorded his songs.

“It’s a small world”
As a kid, he was given a drum kit by his mother. Since then he has progressed to learn classic pop/rock instruments like the guitar, bass and keyboards. This has given Olav a sound foundation for the music he writes. Since most studios these days are digital tracks can easily be shared. This enabled the participation of series of great Danish musicians.

Bjørn Ginman recorded most of the guitar tracks at his home in Denmark. The same goes for legendary bass players Michael Friis and Thomas Risell as well as drummer Lars Wagner. In Brooklyn Olav had help from vocalist Rorie Kelly, guitarist Matt Nichols and double bass player Dean Johnson.

Olav always wrote songs but it was not until later in life that he was ready to share a few of them.
“Now that I am older and expecting my first child, I feel an urge to make my mark. Something my daughter can listen to in the future. The songs are very personal. Basically 5 different still images of my state of mind at the time I penned the songs. You can try to make sense of the lyrics or not. Most people listening will probably interpret the songs as they see fit and that is perfectly fine. ” Says Olav.

“The name”
“I was having a slightly inebriated philosophical conversation with a friend and in between what was most likely incoherent gibberish; I managed to utter a full sentence of what, in my mind, sounded like common sense! My friend then blurted out sarcastically without missing a beat "You are the Danish Voice of Reason!" His words stuck and eventually turned into the acronym "DVR"! Olav explains.

Obviously, DVR is also how many Americans watch TV these days.
The fruits of the labor are available on Bandcamp exclusively!
