After meeting in Ogden, Utah in November 2011, Whitney and Steve formed the powerful duo; Chasing Opal. In pursuit of adventure and change, the Utah natives relocated to Wilmington, NC in April of 2013. They currently are booking gigs and working on a new EP.

Growing up with a writer and poet for a mother, Whitney Blayne started writing at a young age. At seven years old she began learning piano, and went on to play the violin in grade school. Diagnosed with Scoliosis at age 15, she had spinal surgery at age 17. During her recovery she taught herself to play guitar. Whitney, “Playing music became an outlet for me. Music is a great way to express yourself and heal your pain when nothing else can. ” After two years of performing solo, and the release of her first acoustic album “Turning Pages”, Whitney knew when she met Steve that it was time to take the leap from a solo act to a band.
When she is not streaming inspirational lyrics; Whitney puts on a headset, turns on the TV and commences yelling at kids while playing COD on Xbox Live.

In hope of him becoming a guitarist, Steve’s parents named him after the famous guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Not quite meeting that expectation, Steven Ray Seguin became a drummer instead. At age 12 after losing his older sister to a rare medical ailment, Steve’s passion for music became stronger. “Music helped me stay out of trouble. It was a positive place where I could focus my energy”-Steve. Studying percussion through grade school, and continuing his studies at Weber State University, Steve made percussion his primary focus. Looking for a musician who was serious about playing music, Steve saw an opportunity to play music with Whitney and took it.
When he’s not throwing down on mad beats, Steve enjoys long walks on the beach and cuddling with buckets full of puppies.

Chasing Opal is passionate about sharing their love for music with others. This energetic Indie Folk Duo feel that there is something special about an intimate acoustic setting. Sticking true to their roots, they continue to perform all acoustic sets. Just a boy with his drum, and a Girl with her guitar.
