Saxophonist Kendra Emery is a passionate and enthusiastic performer, educator, and collaborator. Kendra has an interest in creative and unique concert planning; some of her past productions include a 4-course dinner concert with original compositions written to accompany each dish and a multitude of house concerts. Saxophonist Kendra Emery is a passionate and enthusiastic performer, educator, and collaborator. Kendra has an interest in creative and unique concert planning; some of her past productions include a 4-course dinner concert with original compositions written to accompany each dish and a multitude of house concerts. Kendra has performed at the Princeton Sound Kitchen, EMM and many NASA conferences. As a member of the Vagus Trio she was a National Finalist at the MTNA chamber music competition in 2011 and the Arriaga chamber music competition in 2012. In the spring of 2012 Kendra was awarded the Hartford Arts and Heritage Jobs Grant for the purchase of a baritone saxophone.

Kendra earned her Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance from the University of Arizona with a minor in French. While at the U of A she studied with Dr. Brian Sacawa, Dr. Timothy McAllister, and Dr. Kelland Thomas. As part of her French minor she had the privilege of studying abroad in Paris in the spring of 2007, while there she traveled to take lessons with Raaf Hekkema and Jean-Yves Fourmeau. She earned her Master of Music in saxophone performance from the Hartt School in West Hartford, CT in 2011 under the tutelage of Carrie Koffman and continued her studies there to earn a graduate professional diploma in 2012. She was a fellow at the Bang On A Can Summer Music Festival at MASS Moca summer 2013.

Kendra currently maintains a private saxophone and clarinet studio and gives clinics at schools in the greater Hartford area. She is in the middle of recording her first CD, works for tenor sax, voice, and loop pedal/effects written by 9 composer she met at the BOAC festival.
