Founded in 1997 by a group of Cornell students, including founder Elana Wolff ('01), Music Director Dennis Chow ('99), President Anand Swaminathan ('99), and Business Manager Amanda Stahl ('99), the Chordials sing a diverse mix of rock, soul, pop and R&B. The group has performed at many venues around the Cornell University campus, the Ithaca area, as well as across the northeast, including Penn State, Haverford, Rutgers, Muhlenberg, RPI, Johns Hopkins, Rochester, Buffalo, New York City, and Martha's Vineyard. They have even performed internationally, touring Germany in the summer of 2008.

Over the years, the Chordials have had anywhere between six and eighteen members.Since 1998 the group has produced at least one major concert each year, including their annual "Cocktail Hour" concert in the spring semester. Their annual fall concert is titled "After Hours". The group has maintained a varied repertoire and is known for their edgy and passionate style. Through their regional performances and several album releases, the Chordials have become a well-known exemplar of the collegiate a cappella genre.
