Steinway Artist since 2005 and Berklee College of Music Piano Department Chair

The gift of a toy piano for her fifth birthday was where the music started for the Italian-born musician Moira Lo Bianco. After that, it wasn’t long before Moira found her first loves: the keyboard music of Bach and Bartok. From each composer she took traits - counterpoint and balance from Bach, dissonance and harshness from Bartok - that have influenced her music ever since.
Moira undertook classical piano performance at F. Torrefranca Conservatory in Vibo Valentia, in 2004. Soonafter, she undertook graduate studies at The University of Tor Vergata and completed her Bachelor of Arts with an ethnomusicology thesis on Calabrian folk music and its traditions.
Under the tutelage of Oscar award-winning composer Luis Bacalov, Moira studied film scoring at Siena's Accademia Chigiana. Looking to develop her ability as a pianist, composer and arranger, she received a scholarship to pursue further studies at Berklee College of Music and graduated with Summa Cum Laude in 2012.
Moira recently has enjoyed collaborations with Simon Shaheen, Marco Pignataro Kinan Azmeh, Arooj Aftab and she also had the chance to start a workshop series called Improvisation for Classical Pianists, hosted at M. Steinert & Sons and Berklee College of Music. The workshop joined her philosophy to bring classical music to unconventional venues and to help the next generation of listeners understand and appreciate its influence on the music that came afterwards. Her music presents listeners with a breadth of music concepts, artistic vision and world philosophies.
Moira’s first album Lunaria was released in Summer 2013. Produced by Alain Mallet, the album features the Moira Lo Bianco Trio, comprised of Bruno Råberg on double bass and Marcello Pellitteri on drums. Recently Lunaria was nominated on first ballot of 56th annual Grammy Awards and Moira was nominated Jazz Artist of the Year at the 2013 Boston Music Awards.
Moira Lo Bianco Music supports the Massachusetts Citizens for Children and their Enough Abuse campaign which aims to united communities to actively build awareness and train citizens on how to prevent child sexual abuse.
