I loved it! I wasn't previously aware of him and his band. Great song crafting and hot musicians. I'll keep my eye out for them and go in person next time.

George Cole: Gypsy Jazz and Uptown Swing

George Cole on guitar and vocals, with two-time Grammy Award winning violinist Mads Tolling as a special guest. Also featured are Sheldon Brown on clarinet, Kaeli Earle on bass and vocals, and Patrick Anseth on rhythm guitar.

George Cole's original music celebrates the great American Songbook with sparkling melodies and lyrics, breathtaking harmonies, and guitar virtuosity melding the dynamic styles of gypsy jazz and swing a la Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt  with the acoustic string-driven French sound of “Le Jazz Hot.”

Influenced by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and other great jazz era composers, George weaves together his distinctive originals with songs by the masters for an exciting synthesis of upbeat American swing with a continental flair.

George Cole is a guitarist, vocalist, composer, entrepreneur and multimedia producer whose happy, upbeat swing sound with a gypsy jazz flair is winning favor with audiences at major venues throughout the country. A San Francisco native, Cole was guitar instructor and mentor to Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day. He has toured with Joe Walsh, recorded with producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen and Paul McCartney), and played guitar and sung duets with jazz legend Keely Smith. He recorded on Chris Isaak's platinum-selling Forever Blue album. George is now recording with Grammy award winning engineer/producer John Cuniberti (Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar) and is signed with David Grisman's Acoustic Oasis / Acoustic Disc label for online distribution of his “Riverside Drive” CD. He is also developing original video concepts; themed concerts and festivals for various arts presenters; and new arrangements for performance by symphony and chamber orchestras.

Mads Tolling, internationally renowned violinist, violist, and composer, is a two-time Grammy Award winner. A former member of both Turtle Island Quartet and bassist Stanley Clarke’s band for nine years each, Mads has spent most his professional life touring internationally. Since 2007 he has led his own group, the Mads Tolling Quartet. His “The Playmaker” CD, released in 2009, features Stanley Clarke and fellow jazz greats Russell Ferrante and Stefon Harris. A brand new MTQ album, “Celebrating Jean-Luc Ponty – Live at Yoshi’s,” was released in May 2012. Mads has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, and his recordings have received rave reviews in Downbeat Magazine, Strings Magazine, the Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle. In addition to Turtle Island and Stanley Clarke, he has performed with Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron and Paquito D’Rivera.
