Andrew began playing guitar at age 16 and taught guitar part-time while attending university.
He played in local rock/jazz and top 40 bands while gaining stage and musical experience. He started a full-time teaching business in 1983 that catered to 50 students.

BACKGROUND:

Andrew began playing guitar at age 16 and taught guitar part-time while attending university.
He played in local rock/jazz and top 40 bands while gaining stage and musical experience. He started a full-time teaching business in 1983 that catered to 50 students.

EDUCATION:

Attended Musicians Institute in California in 1988-89.
During this intensive year Andrew augmented his experience in many styles and performance situations while allowing him to specialise in improvisation.
He achieved the highest certificate awarded by Musicians Institute.

In 1993 Andrew studied composing for Film and Television through Griffith University.
He maintains a regular daily study routine on guitar that encompasses many facets, concepts and styles.

Andrew completed a Bachelor of Popular Music degree through the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2001 and received an Award for Academic Excellence
Andrew has recorded a number of albums and has experience in audio production.

EXPERIENCE:
Since 1989 Andrew has performed locally, interstate and internationally in a wide variety of music genes and venues.

PERFORMANCE

His instrumental solo guitar work is always enjoyed by clients and customers as he plays a varied repertoire of pop, jazz, blues, soul, funk and Spanish styles.

Andrew was the guitarist in the very successful Gold Coast band “Nightflight”.
During his five years with “Nightflight” he was able to hone his composing, arranging, programming and playing skills.
Since 1994 Andrew has been a freelance guitarist working sessions with and supporting many well known Australian and international artists including Petula Clark, The Platters, Graham Connors, Grace Knight, Anthony Warlow, Tina Arena, Rick Price, Julie Anthony, The Ten Tenors, Geoff Harvey, Venetta Fields, Doug Parkinson, Tommy Emmanuel, Don Burrows and James Morrison.

The 2011 Brisbane season of the hit musical ‘WICKED’ saw Andrew take on the task of all guitars, mandolin and banjo. In December 2012 he began performances for the Brisbane season of ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Annie’. In Dec 2012 he completed the Brisbane season of ‘A Chorus Line’.

He has been pit guitarist in a number of musicals including the locally produced ‘Pyjamas in Paradise’, ‘Fame’, ‘Les Miserables’, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.

He has been a featured artist at ‘Jazz in the Basement’ at Gold Coast Arts Centre on a number of occasions.
Andrew has performed in many of the lounges and bars on the Gold Coast with resident bands, duos and solo.
He has toured to China and Malaysia and often plays solo guitar in a variety of venues.

Andrew has worked with the Queensland Symphony and Queensland Philharmonic orchestras and performed with members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
He is ‘first call’ guitarist for the Brisbane City Carols TV special for a number of years.

RECORDING

Andrews’ first instrumental album (released in 1995) TOP GEAR is a fusion of blues, rock, jazz, and Latin styles and showcases Andrew’s earthy blues feel and his sophisticated melodic and harmonic sense.

His compositions have won acclaim on the ‘Broadjam.com Top Ten charts’ and he continues to write, arrange and record at his own studio.

GUITAR TUITION

Andrew is currently employed as Tutor of Guitar at All Saints Anglican School where he has been working for 25 years. He has developed many tuition books and play-a-long CD’s for his students.
