HARKthegirl aka Marnie Herald comes from Canadian backwoods country. But don't let her roots fool you into thinking you'll know what kind of music she makes. Soft spoken and sweet in person yet capable of writing cryptic declarations of love, loss and heartache. A singer songwriter with such unmistakable mystery and allure has led her to collaborate with the likes of many talented artists and musicians.
In 2009, Hark went into the studio with Butch Walker who produced her song, 'Nightwalker' a track Hark wrote for the Nintendo DS game, Lux Pain. It received an amazing response both in and out of the gaming genre where it was often heard on KCRW in California.
In late 2010-2012 Hark teamed up with Canadian Hip Hop Artist Buck 65 as his singer whom she toured with extensively in Europe, the US and the Canadian festival circuits.
In 2012 Hark returned to Los Angeles to contribute her musical talents to television, most recently having her cover of Paul Simon's song, 'St. Judy's Comet' commissioned for an episode on a Fox TV series called Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland.
In 2013 Hark recorded her first full length record and joined forces with producer, Patrick Leonard. Most known for his work with Madonna and who most recently co-wrote and produced Leonard Cohen's last Juno winning record.
The end of 2013, Hark was asked to join Brendan Canning's (Broken Social Scene) solo project as a guitarist, keyboardist and singer as well as fill the opening slots for him after seeing her perform with her band at a residency at The Dakota in Toronto last October. They did a small 21 day run across Canada and in the US and after so many requests to purchase music, she made a two song Hark demo in which she hand painted the covers while driving across the country and they sold out.
The results of her alchemist experiments will be released early 2015 on a 10 song digital and vinyl release as well as a single 'Live to Vinyl' recording of her song, 'Forgive Me'. You can hear some of her old demos on Soundcloud and on US iTunes and Spotify.
Hear Hark (Marnie Herald) here on Concert Window live this Sunday November, 30th at 8:30pm EST. The concert is free!
