What a fantastic show. The sound quality was outstanding and the taxidermy was bold but tasteful.

The musicians are outstanding, the music was outstanding, the sound quality was A+. The video quality, I would give it about a C... it was pixelated, sort of "hazy," and at times "choppy". I was quite surprised at the rather low quality of the video feed. I'd seen Jefferson do a show from his apartment and it was all high quality... plus, the camera in Jeff’s show was much closer to him, which made watching him and his fingers doing their work on the guitar much more enjoyable. For the Murphy Beds show, the camera was too far away. Also, in Jeff's concert, he would pause and glance over the comments himself, reply, say thanks for tips, etc. The Murphy Beds show lacked that direct interaction. Closer camera would have been really nice. And it would have been nice if the musicians would have said, "This will be the last number"-- instead, there were a couple of thanks, then the song, and then a very abrupt end to the show, leaving some viewers to write, "Was that it?" Otherwise, the songs and singing and playing were brilliant, as expected. But the show lacked a bit of an “up close and personal” quality.

Jefferson Hamer is a traditional musician and songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York. His most recent album is Child Ballads, released in 2013 on Wilderland Records. A painstaking, contemporary American reworking of seven of Professor Francis James Child’s venerable 19th century English and Scottish Popular Ballads, this record was arranged and performed in close duo collaboration with acclaimed singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell. The album received two BBC Folk Award nominations, showed up on best of 2013 lists in Rolling Stone and New York magazine, and was named one of NPR’s top-ten Folk and Americana releases of 2013 (“their tight harmonies and … lyrical edits turned these centuries-old songs into contemporary gems” -NPR). Jefferson’s other release from 2013, The Murphy Beds, is an acoustic collaboration with Dublin-born musician Eamon O’Leary. Featuring ten American and Celtic-influenced folk songs, sung harmony duet-style, and decorated with intricate guitar and bouzouki accompaniment, The Murphy Beds creates a contemplative space where musical composition and arrangement converge with the deep river of tradition. The Huffington Post said it succinctly: “The resulting album bears repeated listening from start to finish, with ten beautiful, crystalline songs.”
